New Hampshire psychology licensing requirements
The educational requirement to become a licensed psychologist in New Hampshire is earning a doctoral degree from a college or university that is regionally accredited and includes a graduate program, or its substantial equivalent in subject matter and extent of training. Also:
- Two years of satisfactory, supervised experience in the field of psychology is required by the state in order to receive a certification in psychology
- An examination in psychology, such as the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) which is administered by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (AATBS); the EPPP pass rate for participants has been consistently around 90 percent, and, according to the AATBS, test-takers’ scores are directly related to their level of preparation
To practice psychology in the state of New Hampshire, applicants must have a license that is granted by the State of New Hampshire Board of Psychologists. Forms used to apply for the license may be found on the board’s website, and a fee, which will be established by the board, will be required and will be collected by the Board of Mental Health Practice.
- Licenses in New Hampshire are valid for two years, at which time they must be renewed.
- Licensees will be informed by the board of the date of expiration of their licenses and the amount of the fee required for its renewal for another two years. This notice will be mailed at least two months before the date of expiration.
- The conditions of renewal include a timely and complete filing of the renewal application and the payment of a fee established by the board. The renewal procedure also includes continuing education requirements as well as collaboration prerequisites.
